Laos: The house of a wealthy Laotian family, drawn by French expeditioner Louis Delaporte, c. 1866-67.

The house is made of rattan and bamboo. It is supported by hardwood stilts to protect the building in Monsoon season. Under the house is a chicken run and pig sty. Peacocks roam in the garden, and the hamlet is surrounded by coconut palms.
