Vietnam: A farmer wearing a non la (Vietnamese conical hat) takes a break from planting rice

The ubiquitous cream-coloured non la (conical hat) shelters farmers from tropical sun and monsoon rains like a mobile parasol. The hat is made from latania palm leaves woven about a bamboo lath. Today, far more women than men wear the emblematic headwear.
