India / Manipur: Major General Sir James Johnstone (1841-1895), British Political Agent in Manipur (1877-1886)

The Anglo-Manipur war (1891) saw the conquest of Manipur by British Indian forces and the incorporation of the small Assamese kingdom within the British Raj.

Subsequently Manipur became a Princely State under British tutelage.
