Japan: 'Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove' (Chikurin shichiken), from the series 'A Set of Ten Famous Numbers for the Katsushika Circle' (Katsushikaren meisu juban). Yashima Gakutei (1786-1868), c. 1825

Yashima Gakutei was a Japanese artist and poet who was a pupil of both Totoya Hokkei and Hokusai. Gakutei is best known for his kyoka poetry and surimono woodblock works.
