Japan: The poet Kakinomoto no Hitomaro (fl. 680-710), a fan in hand, sitting on a balcony overlooking the sea. He is ranked as one of the Thirty-six Poetry Immortals. Yashima Gakutei (1786-1868), c. 1821

Yashima Gakutei was a Japanese artist and poet who was a pupil of both Totoya Hokkei and Hokusai. Gakutei is best known for his kyoka poetry and surimono woodblock works.
