Zhang Kui was a character from the classic Ming Dynasty novel 'Fengshen Yanyi'. Zhang Kui was a commander in Mianchi County and a follower of King Zhou of Shang. His wife was the fearsome Gao Lanying, and together they fought for the Shang army against the Zhou army. Zhang Kui struck down many rival commanders and heroes before eventually dying at the blade of the legendary warrior Wei Hu.
