Phanaeng (also spelled phanang) is a type of red Thai curry that is thick, salty and sweet, with a nutty peanut flavor. The earliest known mention of phanaeng appears in Mom Somchin Rachanupraphan's book Tamra Kap Khao, published in 1890.
