Spain: Medallion of El Greco (Doménikos Theotokópoulos 1541 – 1614), painter, sculptor and architect, Plaza de España (Spain Square), Seville

Doménikos Theotokópoulos (1 October 1541 – 7 April 1614), most widely known as El Greco ('The Greek'), was a painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. 'El Greco' was a nickname, a reference to his Greek origin.

El Greco was born in the Kingdom of Candia, which was at that time part of the Republic of Venice, and the center of Post-Byzantine art. He trained and became a master within that tradition. In 1577, he moved to Toledo, Spain, where he lived and worked until his death.

The Plaza de España is a plaza in the Parque de María Luisa (Maria Luisa Park), in Seville, Spain, built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. It is a landmark example of the Regionalism Architecture, mixing elements of the Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival (Neo-Mudéjar) styles of Spanish architecture.
