Afghanistan: 'Group of Hazara Chiefs', photograph by John Burke (1843-1900), c. 1879-1880

Hazara are a Persian-speaking people who mainly live in central Afghanistan and Pakistan. They are overwhelmingly Twelver Shia Muslims and make up the third largest ethnic group in Afghanistan, forming about 20% of the total population.
