Malaysia / China: Carving of Deng Zhong, depicting his role in the 16th Century Ming Dynasty novel Fengshen Yanyi ('Investiture of the Gods'). From Ping Sien Si Temple, Pasir Panjang Laut
Deng Zhong is a character in the classic Ming Dynasty novel 'Fengshen Yanyi', and is the primary figure of the four Mount Yellow Blossom's lords. Deng Zhong was described as having an indigo face, with long crimson hair and protruding buck teeth. He wielded a great golden axe.
He was originally a foe of Grand Old Master Wen Zhong of the Shang Dynasty, and was killed by him during their first encounter. However, Deng would later be revived and became a loyal sword to Wen Zhong, serving under Wen Zhong during the Western Foothills campaign, where he battled it out with Huang Feihu.
