Cha Ca La Vong is a famous fish restaurant named for an old fisherman called La Vong; a wooden statue of him holding a fishing rod and a string of fish stands by the entrance. In times past the street name was Hang Son or ‘Paint Street’, but as Cha Ca La Vong grew in popularity, so the name of the street gradually changed to become Hang Cha Ca.

Cha Ca La Vong’s success rests on specialising in a single dish; there is nothing but cha ca (roasted fish) on the menu. The exact recipe remains a closely guarded family secret.
