Saloninus (242-260) was the son of Emperor Gallienus. He was appointed as Caesar in 258, and was sent to Gaul to enforce his father's authority, where he was put under the protection of the praetorian prefect Silvanus. His main seat in Gaul was Cologne.

In 260, Saloninus ordered General Postumus to hand over all the war booty his troops had seized in battle, demanding it be sent to his estate instead. Postumus's troops took exception and rose up against the Roman Empire, declaring Postumus their emperor, killing both Saloninus and Silvanus, and establishing the so-called Gallic Empire.
