From 1861 to 1890 the Munich publishing firm of Braun and Schneider published plates of historic and contemporary  costume in their magazine Munchener Bilderbogen.<br/><br/>

These plates were eventually collected in book form and published at the turn of the century in Germany and England.
The town and pass of Bundi (Rajputana) in Rajasthan. Bundi was founded in 1341 by Rao Deva and is situated in a narrow valley within the Aravalli Hills in Rajasthan. The ruling family of the state, the Hara Chauhan clan of Rajputs, built a series of impressive palaces, gardens and tanks, which appear to have been carved out of the hillside in several tiers.<br/><br/>

The town is full of attractive garden pavilions, stepwell tanks, temples and memorial pavilions. One of the palace complexes of the town can be seen on the hill in the background of this view.
Rājputāna (Hindi: राजपूताना ) was the name adopted by British government for its dependencies in the region of present-day Indian state of Rājasthān. Rajputana included 18 princely states, two chiefships and the British district of Ajmer-Merwara. This British official term remained official till its replacement by Rajasthan in the constitution of 1949.
